We found out at our 20 week ultrasound that our baby had a severe heart defect. Our MFM referred is to Dr. Brumund, who told us we could expect three staged surgeries to repair Thomas’s unbalanced AV canal. We decided we wanted to go to Boston Children’s Hospital because they are number 1 in pediatric cardiology and when you find out your unborn child has a severe heart defect, a 95% success rate is what you want. LPCF helped us travel to Boston and pay for our room for the first and second surgeries Thomas required. Boston has become our home away from home and will forever hold a special place in my own heart since it was where Thomas was born and subsequently where his life was made possible by his surgeries. To be able to give Thomas the best pediatric cardiology team in the country has been one of the best decisions of my life. The grants we received from LPCF have made his life possible. He is the most cheerful, funny, loving six year old I know. He brings joy to everyone who meets him. His special heart has touched the lives of so many already.
